Sydney Hirsch (born 1993) is an American artist and writer.

Early life 

Sydney Hirsch [1] was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1993. She has one younger brother. [2] She graduated from Wylie E. Groves High School in 2011 and went onto attend The Pratt Institute and eventually transferred to the University of Michigan, graduating in 2015 with a B.A. in Screen Arts and Cultures, a major that incorporates elements of filmmaking, screenwriting, and theory.[3][4][5] Growing up, she describes herself as “wannabe skater-boy adjacent with too much screentime.”[6]

Career

Hirsch moved to Brooklyn, New York in 2015 and subsequently held multiple jobs, such as children’s sports class instructor[7], theater usher[8], and front-desk receptionist.[9] Eventually she began supporting herself doing freelance motion graphics work, generally in advertising, working on campaigns for Popeye’s, Covergirl, and Macy’s.[10] She also took various modeling, illustration, and acting jobs, as well as writing articles about interior design trends for Architectural Digest.[11] She gained a modest following on X (formerly Twitter) posting jokes and passing thoughts.[12] In 2025, she completed her first novel. From then on, she became very successful and acclaimed.

Personal life 

Hirsch has a black cat named Buzz.[13] Her favorite things are TV shows (30 Rock, Tim & Eric, anything narrated by Bill Kurtis), mid-century modern houses, emo boys, pop culture, retro kitsch, Elliott Smith, Angelfire, documentaries, drag queens, psychedelia, and true scary stories. [14][15][16]
